Iran and Azerbaijan discussed restoration of Khudafarin Bridge

Energy Minister of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov, who is visiting the Islamic Republic of Iran, met with Ali Akbar Mehrabian, the Energy Minister of Iran.

According to the information provided by the Ministry of Energy, the current issues of cooperation in the field of electric energy between the two countries were discussed in the limited and extensive meetings. The ministers discussed issues such as implementation status of the construction project of "Khudafarin" and "Giz-Galasi" hydroelectric junctions and hydroelectric power stations on the Araz River.

Two ministers shared gratification about the final stage of construction of hydro-junctions. During the meeting it was noted that the opening ceremony of “Khudafarin" and "Giz-Galasi" hydroelectric junctions will be held soon. It is extremely important that the issues related to the construction of hydroelectric junctions must be speeded up. Issues related to the use of water resources, as well as joint measures with the Iranian side on the restoration, protection and maintenance of the historical "Khudafarin" bridges were also discussed during the meeting.

At the meeting, measures to speed up the construction of the 36 MW Ordubad HPP on the Araz River, as well as the current state of cooperation on the coordination of the power grids of Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia were reviewed.

It was agreed to hold a tripartite meeting in a short time. During the meeting, the expansion of cooperation on the exchange and transit of electric energy was also discussed.

It was agreed to strengthen mutual efforts towards the development of priority projects on the cooperation agenda.

In the end, a press conference was held on the results of the meeting.
