New restrictions have been imposed against the Azerbaijani prisoner Farzana Garahasanli, who is currently serving a 5-year sentence in the Vakilabad prison of Mashhad.
This information was provided by family members of the activist.
Farzana Garahasanli was banned from meeting her relatives and talking on the phone after writing a congratulatory message about the Novruz holiday while in prison.
46-year-old laboratory science specialist Farzana Garahasanli and her husband Hamid Garahasanli were detained in the city of Karaj on November 4, 2022.
She was arrested and sentenced to 5 years in prison for taking part in the 40th anniversary ceremony of Azerbaijani poetess Hadis Najafi, who was killed by government officials during the protest.
Her husband, a radiologist, 54-year-old Hamid Garahasanli, was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
According to reports, both detainees were subjected to severe torture during interrogation, and they were forced to make false confessions.
Hamid and Farzana Garahasanli did not accept the charges brought against them in court.
