The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) summoned Switzerland's ambassador during the attack on Israel. This information was released by "The New York Times".
Mojtaba Abtahi, an adviser to the Iranian Interior Minister, previously claimed that the Swiss Ambassador was summoned to the IRGC rather than the Foreign Ministry at 3 a.m. during Iran's first direct attack against Israel.
On Saturday night, Tehran launched 350 or more missiles and drones in response to Israel's April 1 airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus.
Israel, aided by the United States and other allies, reported that approximately 99% of the threats were eliminated, while others caused no harm.
The IRGC breached diplomatic protocol by summoning Swiss Ambassador Nadine Lozano to its headquarters. The ambassador was specifically warned that "if the US takes even a minor step, the IRGC will destroy the entire region, demonstrating the true political power of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in Tehran."
Since 1980, when the US embassy in Iran was attacked, Switzerland has played an important role in representing US interests in Iran. It acts as a go-between for US interests in Iran during times of heightened tensions. However, summoning an ambassador to a military base, which is a clear violation of diplomatic protocol, is an extremely unusual occurrence. As of now, neither Switzerland nor the United States have responded to this breach of diplomatic norms.
