The United States has imposed sanctions on two Iranian companies and four Iranian individuals who are suspected of being involved in cyber attacks on critical infrastructure.
The US Department of the Treasury's press service states this.
According to the document, two companies and four individuals have been subject to restrictions, including the head of the IRGC's cyber command. The US Treasury Department claims they were involved in malicious cyber activity that harmed over ten American businesses and government agencies.
In turn, the US Treasury Department stated that the alleged cyberattacks also targeted companies from other countries.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the attacks were carried out in order to benefit the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. According to Brian Nelson, Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence at the US Department of the Treasury, the sanctioned individuals and entities have engaged in a coordinated, long-term campaign to destabilize critical infrastructure in the United States.
Inclusion on the sanctions list entails freezing assets in the United States and prohibiting American citizens and businesses from doing business with those under sanctions.
