On April 26, Fatima Babakhani, the center's director, stated this on the "X" platform.

"The non-governmental Mehr-e Shams Afarid Refuge House, a small center for abused women and a shelter more important than our lives, has been closed," Babakhani wrote.

She protested the authorities' closure of the center as well as the rudeness with which it was closed.

“It's as if troops have entered the shelter. The city's officials, managers and security personnel rushed to the shelter and did so without legal authorization or official notification. They drove the women who had sought refuge in the center to that organization in a Social Assistance Organization vehicle.

It should be noted that Fatima Babakhani mentioned the possibility of closing the center a day ago.

In an interview with "Eastern TV," she stated that 8-9 officials from the Health Organization of West Azerbaijan Province visited and inspected the center the day before.

"Mehr-e Shams Afarid" Refuge House began operations in 2020 under Fatima Babakhani's management after receiving a legal license. The center protects women who have experienced domestic violence and offers legal, professional, and medical services.
