According to the 2024 report, Iran ranks 176th out of 180 countries in terms of press freedom.

This country is only ranked higher than North Korea, Afghanistan, Syria, and Eritrea. Turkmenistan, Arabia, and Azerbaijan are ranked significantly higher than Iran in terms of press freedom.

According to Reporters Without Borders, Iran has one of the world's largest prisons for journalists due to "mass arrests" against the press.

It was also reported that the Middle Eastern countries' freedom of the press coefficients are decreasing by 2024.

According to the report, journalists in Middle Eastern countries, including Iran, are not permitted to properly broadcast news about war, corruption, economic crises, feminism, ethnicities, and other related topics.
