Images of Lake Urmia's condition have been shared for some time, causing Azerbaijanis to rejoice in the hope that the lake will be revived.
However, despite the lavish pictures shared and reports from Iranian government-affiliated news agencies that dam water has been released into the lake and that the lake's condition is improving, Lake Urmia remains in poor condition.
Ahmet Baybvedir, an environmental expert, has expressed his thoughts on this.
"Considering the temperature in the summer months, the amount of evaporation from the lake during these months is approximately 2 billion cubic meters." Given the lake's current water volume of 2.2 billion cubic meters, the water volume required for revival should be 14 billion cubic meters. So, there is still a long way to go before the lake is revived."
The water level in Lake Urmia has slightly improved as a result of the recent heavy rains.
Iranian authorities claim that the increase is due to state efforts and plans to restore the lake.
