"If the situation in the healthcare sector persists, we will face the risk of importing doctors and sending patients out of the country," said the former minister.

In an interview with the Iranian opposition newspaper Etimad, the chairman of Iran's Society of Surgeons discussed health-care issues.

"Problems faced by students doing internships, a lack of doctors, and vacant places for education in medical specialties will lead to the collapse of medicine in Iran," Iradj Fazel stated in an interview.

He pointed out that no one chose vascular surgery in the national university entrance exams last year, and other medical specialties were also left empty.

"With this situation, in ten years, we will need to bring specialists from other countries for those specialties and send patients abroad for surgical procedures.

Iradj Fazel, Iran's former Minister of Health, stated that the country's future is not promising.
