The United States will boycott the event honoring Ebrahim Raisi

The United States will boycott the UN General Assembly session dedicated to the memory of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash on May 19.

This was reported by "Reuters".

"We will not participate in this event," stated an anonymous American official. He believes that the United Nations should "support the people of Iran rather than honor the memory of someone who oppressed Iranians for decades."

In addition, the lowering of the United Nations flag in half was criticized.

After being heavily chastised by Republicans for sending an official message of condolence on Ibrahim Raisi's death, the US government has announced that it will not attend this UN meeting.

The memorial service is scheduled for May 30 at 10:00 (18:00 Baku time). The General Assembly traditionally holds such meetings to honor government leaders who died while in office.

It should be noted that on May 19, the helicopter carrying the President of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, crashed near the country's Varzigan city. Along with the country's president, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian, Governor General of East Azerbaijan province Malek Rehmati, Imam of Tabriz Muhammad Ali Hashemin and others died in the accident.
