Human rights activists reported this, citing prison sources.

According to reports, the Azerbaijani activist, who suffers from severe pain and numbness in his right leg, can move with the help of his cellmates.

Furthermore, it was reported that he was experiencing back pain and that his condition was deteriorating.

Although the doctors at the prison's medical center recommended that he be treated in a hospital rather than in prison, the prison authorities refused.

Given the circumstances, Amnesty International issued a statement a few days ago calling for Reza Shahabi's unconditional release.

It is worth noting that the activist arrested on May 12, 2022, is originally from Shabister, East Azerbaijan province.

He was sentenced to six years in prison after being charged with "propaganda against the government" and "assembling and colluding to harm the country's national security."

Reza Shahabi had previously served a six-year prison sentence for peaceful activities. He suffered serious spinal and neck injuries as a result of being beaten by officers during his arrest.
