Hashim Kargar, the head of the Iranian Registration Office, issued this statement.

In order to preserve and develop Iranian national identity, he advised relevant institutions and individuals to enrich the identity database with names associated with Iranian and Islamic cultures.

It is important to note that names other than Persian and Arabic are considered non-Iranian in Iran.

Azerbaijani parents face deprivation and pressure for choosing Turkish names for their children, and children are denied identity documents for years due to their Turkish names.

The Iranian Registration Office does not issue identity cards to Azerbaijani children with Turkish names because they are not on the list of approved Iranian names.

According to the Registry Office, names that are not on the list are considered foreign and contradict Iranian identity.
