A protest was organized by the dismissed employees of the lead and zinc company in the southern Azerbaijani city of Zanjan, Iran.

The employees, who gathered in front of the provincial governor's office, claimed that the management of the company and associated state institutions had violated their rights.

They claim that because their line of work involves hazardous materials, the 6-hour workday was not followed as planned. "We were dismissed due to our protests that we were exceeding the legal working hours and were not compensated for them," the workers stated.

Only 200 workers remain at the 400-employee company, according to workers, after protesters were fired earlier for similar reasons.

It should be mentioned that Azerbaijan's Zanjan province is well-known for its numerous mines, which include those that produce gold, lead, and zinc.

The minerals extracted from Zanjan's "Angoran" lead and zinc mine, which is regarded as the largest of its kind in the Middle East, have been transported to the central provinces of Iran for over 70 years.
