Iranian media on Friday, June 21, published a message attributed to Ali Shamkhani, the political advisor to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic.

On August 27, Iranian leader Ali Khamenei urged the new government to strengthen control over Iran's cyberspace, which has been severely restricted in recent years.
Iranian media reported on this.
"The most important thing is to uphold the rule of law in virtual space. If there is no law (to regulate the Internet), prepare one and take control based on it," Khamenei said during his first meeting with President Masoud Pezeshkian's new cabinet.
Khamenei's comments contradict Pezeshkian's campaign promises to ease Iran's longstanding internet restrictions.
It should be noted that Iran has stated in recent years that WhatsApp and Instagram will be permitted to operate only with a legal representative in the country.
However, Meta, the main company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, has said that it has no intention of opening an office in Iran.
