Environmental crisis in Ardabil - Garasu River is being polluted

The Garasu River, which flows through Ardabil, is being contaminated with sewage and industrial wastewater.

Local environmental activists shared information about this.

According to reports, toxic waste from Ardabil's industrial town No.2 is being released into the river, causing various diseases to spread throughout the city and surrounding areas.

Furthermore, it is claimed that the contaminated water used to irrigate the fields of 100 villages in the surrounding areas harms agriculture.

Residents of the villages claim that they wrote letters to the relevant institutions several times and appealed to the management of the industrial town, but received no positive results.

"The discharge of dirty and sewage water from the industrial town into the Garasu River has resulted in the destruction of fish and other living things in the river, the disruption of the region's ecosystem, and the destruction of the surrounding farmlands," the villagers wrote on social media.

Balıglichay, originating from the foothills of Savalan mountain and passing through the city of Ardabil and connecting with the 210-kilometer-long Garasu river, is considered one of Ardabil's natural symbols.
