Asghar Jahangiri, the Iranian judicial system's spokesperson, stated this.

Before that, the Iranian Court and official state media reported that Jamshid Sharmahd, a German citizen of Iranian origin, had been executed.

Asghar Jahangiri's claims that Jamshid Sharmahd died before his execution are thought to be intended to prevent further escalation of relations between Germany and Iran while also reducing international pressure.

It is worth noting that Sharmahd, 68, has lived in California since 2003. While visiting Dubai in July 2020, he was kidnapped by Iranian security officials and taken to Iran.

He was sentenced to death on February 21, 2023, after being accused of leading the "Tonder" terrorist group and planning the explosion in one of Shiraz's mosques.

On April 24, the Iranian Supreme Court confirmed Jamshid Sharmahd's death sentence, which was carried out on October 29.

Following that, Germany recalled its ambassador to Tehran, closed Iranian consulates in three German cities, and expelled 32 Iranian diplomats.
