Urgent Call was Made to Free Narges Mohammadi

Free Narges Coalition has signed a joint letter with more than 40 free expression and human rights organisations calling on the UN Human Rights Council to intervene for the urgent medical release of journalist, activist, and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi, currently detained in Iran.

In a petition signed by 40 human rights organizations, they highlighted the dire financial situation of South Azerbaijani human rights defender and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi, who is being held in Tehran's Evin prison.

The Human Rights Council has been urged by groups that warn that Mohammadi's life is in jeopardy to pressure the Iranian government to place him on medical leave and provide for his medical care.

Narges Mohammadi's lawyer, Mostafa Nili, stated that she was admitted to the hospital a few days ago due to a bone tumor in his leg and that she was immediately returned to prison following the operation.

It should be noted that Narges Mohammadi, who was born in the city of Zanjan in South Azerbaijan and received the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize, was previously sentenced to 12 years and 3 months in prison and 154 lashes for various charges.

Narges Mohammadi was sentenced to another 6 months in prison by the Tehran Criminal Court a week ago for protesting in prison and demanding that executions be suspended.
