The IAEA Adopted Resolution to Pressure Iran

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors adopted a resolution on Thursday urging Iran to increase its cooperation and provide a "comprehensive" report aimed at laying the groundwork for new nuclear negotiations, according to "Reuters".

Britain, France, Germany, and the United States, which proposed the resolution, dismissed as insufficient and insincere a last-minute Iranian move to cap its stock of uranium that is close to weapons-grade. Diplomats said Iran's move was conditional on scrapping the resolution.

Iran reacted sharply to the decision and said it would retaliate with the same measures. Under previous criticism from the board, Iran has increased its nuclear activities and limited international oversight.

During the meeting, 19 nations voted in favor of the text, 12 abstained, and China, Russia, and Burkina Faso voted against it.
