Hamas battalion commander killed in Israeli Airstrikes

Israeli security sources confirmed on Thursday that a series of Israeli airstrikes last week led to the deaths of Hamas’ battalion commander in Gaza City, his deputy, and two high-ranking commanders from the elite Nukhba forces.

The airstrikes targeted Osama Abu Namos, the leader of the Sabra Battalion within the Gaza City Brigade of Hamas. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and Shin Bet security agency issued a joint statement confirming the operation. Abu Namos was described as a key figure in Hamas, responsible for leading the group’s operations against Israeli civilians and orchestrating attacks on IDF troops within the area referred to by Israel as the “Netzarim Corridor.” This strategic region in the central Gaza Strip, which separates northern and southern Gaza, has long been a focal point for the Israeli military’s presence and troop deployments.

Abu Namos was also noted as a crucial intelligence asset for Hamas, providing significant operational knowledge to the group.

In a separate strike, Mahmoud Al Tarq, who served as Abu Namos’ deputy and also held the role of Nukhba Forces company commander, was killed. The IDF and Shin Bet highlighted his involvement in overseeing operations and attacks against Israeli troops in the same region.

Additionally, two other senior Hamas operatives, Mahmoud Shaheen and Hamada Diri, were also killed in airstrikes. Both were Nukhba Forces commanders within the Sabra Battalion. They were responsible for supplying weapons to the battalion’s militants and coordinating attacks on Israeli forces stationed in the Netzarim Corridor.

These targeted airstrikes have dealt a significant blow to Hamas’ operations in Gaza, particularly in its central regions, as Israel continues its ongoing military efforts in the area.
