Iran's fear of war: Regime strengthens military ties with Russia

In an interview with Russian journalist Vladimir Solovyov, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated, "We will try to develop cooperation in all areas where we can help each other, including the military and security fields."

"We must work together so that the enemy does not come and destroy us easily. The enemy should not believe that he can easily defeat us," he said.

On January 17, Russia and Iran signed a strategic partnership agreement. The agreement covers all areas, including defense, counterterrorism, energy, finance, transport, industry, agriculture, culture, science and technology.

It should be noted that analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) believe that the main focus on the partnership agreement is “military-technical cooperation.”

As part of this collaboration, Iran may provide Russia with Shahed unmanned aerial vehicles and other military equipment that could be used in the Ukraine conflict.

Iran, in particular, could assist Russia in increasing production of Shahed drones, reducing reliance on imports and ensuring the flow of equipment required for long-term combat operations.

The agreement also aims to help Russia avoid sanctions and alleviate the economic hardship caused by international restrictions.

Russia hopes that by strengthening economic and transportation ties with Iran, it will be able to avoid Western sanctions and relieve domestic economic pressures.
