Two Azerbaijani national activists, Samad Heydari and Riza Selimi, were arrested by intelligence agents on January 24, 2025.
An informed source told Gunaz TV that the reason for the arrest was that Tabriz Prosecutor Mahbub Alili filed a special complaint against two Azerbaijani activists. The intelligence officers arrested Samad Heydari and Reza Selim based on that complaint.
It should be noted that Tabriz Prosecutor Mahbub Alili is a key figure in the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence when it comes to preparing cases against Azerbaijani activists and suppressing the Azerbaijani national movement.
It should be noted that Samad Heydari was previously detained by security forces on March 13, 2023, following the conclusion of a match between the South Azerbaijani Tractor and Tehran's Havadar teams.
The trial of these three Azerbaijani Turkish activists was suspended for a year in May 2024 by the Tabriz People's and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office's 15th Investigation Department.
The decision also states that they are barred from attending any gathering that "would disturb public opinion" for a year.
