Faribaz Karimayi, deputy head of the Petrochemical Entrepreneurs Association, explained the billion-dollar difference between customs statistics and the association to the "Tabnak" newspaper: "According to the statistics of the Association and the National Petrochemical Industry Company, the export of petrochemical products during the 9 months was 23.9 million tons, which is worth 10.4 billion dollars."

According to Faribaz Karimayi, customs statistics show exports totaling 50.7 million tons and 19.7 billion dollars.

This means that 26.8 million tons of products worth $9.3 billion were exported under the name "petrochemicals," despite the fact that these products have nothing to do with petrochemical companies.
