Political prisoners in 30 Iranian prisons started hunger strike

On February 4, political prisoners in 30 Iranian prisons, including those in Khoy, Urmia, Sulduz (Naqadeh), Ardabil, Salmas, and Tabriz in South Azerbaijan, began a hunger strike to demand that their death sentences be commuted.

This was stated in a statement issued by the "No to Execution Campaign".

The prisoners organizing the protest aim to raise awareness among the international community and human rights organizations about the country's increasing number of death sentences.

In addition to the aforementioned Azerbaijani cities, political prisoners in 24 Iranian cities have begun a hunger strike demanding the same thing. The hunger strike is being held for the 53rd time, on the second day of each week.

It should be noted that in 2024, over 1,000 prisoners were executed in Iran, with 930 of them identified.
