Akbar Azad, a veteran activist with the Azerbaijan National Movement, has been released from the hospital.
Siamak Mirzaii, an Azerbaijani activist, announced the news on his Instagram page, writing that Mr. Azad's kidneys were infected and had spread to his spine, causing paralysis in his left leg.
It should be noted that on January 27, 2024, Akbar Azad left for Darrah City in Ilam Province to complete the remaining two years of his exile.
Akbar Azad was arrested in Baharistan Province in March 2014, along with several other Azerbaijani National Movement activists, on International Mother Language Day.
Alireza Farshi, Behnam Sheikhi, Hamid Manafi, and Akbar Azada were among the activists sentenced to two years in prison and two years of forced relocation to various cities.
Akbar Azad, a political activist, writer, researcher, and translator, as well as a member of the Iranian Writers' Union and the French PEN cultural and literary organization, had previously been arrested and convicted for peaceful activities.
