The United Kingdom, France, and Germany are urged to activate the "snapback" mechanism, which would reinstate full sanctions on Iran through the UN Security Council, according to a bipartisan resolution that has been introduced in both the Senate and the House.

Sen. Pete Ricketts (R-Neb.), the second-ranking Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, is spearheading the Senate version of the bill, which has 11 cosponsors.

"The actions of Iran have resulted in the killing of American service members, and they are the top state sponsor of terrorism," Ricketts stated.

"The security of our allies and ourselves would be in jeopardy if Iran were to acquire a nuclear weapon. For President Trump's maximum pressure campaign to be successful, snapback sanctions are essential.

Reps. Claudia Tenney and Josh Gottheimer have introduced companion legislation in the House of Representatives, calling on European countries to take action before the Iran deal's important clauses expire in October 2025.

According to a press release posted on Tenney's website, "these snapback sanctions would include export controls, travel bans, asset freezes, and other restrictions on those involved in Iranian nuclear and missile activities."
