The confrontation unfolded a day after the Israel Defense Forces accused Hezbollah, which is backed by Iran, and the Quds Force, a wing of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, of using Beirut-bound civilian flights to smuggle money.
According to AFP footage, some of the young men held images of Iran's slain Revolutionary Guards commander Qasem Soleimani and Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli strike in September, while also raising the yellow flag of Hezbollah.
The Public Works and Transport ministry had requested that the airport notify Mahan Air that Lebanon was unable to receive two of its flights bound for Beirut, an official at Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut told AFP.
Israel has repeatedly accused Hezbollah of using Lebanon’s only airport to transfer weapons from Iran.
In January, an Iranian plane carrying a diplomatic delegation was subjected to inspection, sparking outrage from Hezbollah and its supporters and praise by its detractors.
