According to Iranian media, the First Branch of the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Tehran made the decision.

The ruling stated that former Trade Minister Reza Fatimi Amin and former Agriculture Minister Kazem Sadatinejad received prison terms of one year and two years, respectively, for their roles in a 2023 tea smuggling scandal.

The two former ministers were given shorter sentences in compliance with current laws and regulations after being originally sentenced to five years in prison.

This is Iran's first corruption-related arrest of a high-ranking official since the 1979 Revolution.

It should be mentioned that Iran came in at number 151 out of 180 nations in Transparency International's 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index ranking.
