Syria's interim President, Ahmed al-Sharaa, sent a letter of congratulations to President Ilham Aliyev.
The congratulatory letter reads:
“Mr. President, Dear Brother.
I am pleased to convey my most sincere congratulations to you on the occasion of the blessed Ramadan holiday. Taking this opportunity, I wish Your Excellency good health, long life, and even more progress, prosperity and peace for the Republic of Azerbaijan. I pray to Almighty God for the happiness of our countries and peoples, as well as our Islamic Ummah, through our joint efforts.
Happy holiday!”
It should be noted that contacts between the new authorities in Syria and the Republic of Azerbaijan have already begun.
On February 14, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev congratulated Ahmed al-Sharaa on his appointment as the interim President of the Syrian Arab Republic. In his letter to Ahmed al-Sharaa, the head of state emphasized the importance of developing friendly and cooperative relations between Azerbaijan and Syria. Ilham Aliyev extended an invitation to Ahmed al-Sharaa to visit Azerbaijan on official business.
At the same time, Azerbaijan regularly contributes to humanitarian aid distribution campaigns in Syria. Thus, in accordance with the President of Azerbaijan's relevant instructions, on December 30 of last year, our country sent a humanitarian aid convoy weighing approximately 200 tons of various food and food products to Syria in ten trucks.
The next step toward reestablishing Azerbaijani-Syrian diplomatic contacts was the resumption of activities at the Republic of Azerbaijan Embassy in Syria's capital, Damascus. "In this important period, when friendly and cooperative relations between Azerbaijan and Syria have entered a qualitatively new stage, and new opportunities have arisen for the development of partnership in political, economic, cultural and other spheres, our embassy will closely cooperate with the transitional government of Syria and support the development of our bilateral relations," the Press Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.
Azerbaijan did not forget the orphaned children in Syria during the holy month of Ramadan. On the initiative of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the Syrian Arab Republic, with the support of the Azerbaijan International Development Assistance Agency (AIDA) and the organization of the Syrian "Women's Charity Society", iftar meals were organized for 1,000 orphaned children from March 25 to 27 in Damascus (twice) and in the Spena settlement of Damascus, which was subjected to great destruction.
