An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was seen moving close to the border line by border guards assigned to the "Lankaran" border detachment's service area. The drone retreated toward Iran after dropping a small package inside Azerbaijani territory.

The border post was quickly mobilized under the "arm" command, and the area was surrounded by barricades. Two Azerbaijani nationals, Huseynov Razim Mahyaddin oglu (b. 1985) of Gubadli and Hasanov Anar Rasim oglu (b. 1988) of Lankaran, were arrested following a search and security operation. Huseynov was discovered waiting in a nearby car, and Hasanov was arrested at the drop location.

Both suspects admitted to being at the scene to pick up 4.5 kilograms of marijuana that the drone had delivered during the first round of questioning. Additionally, authorities verified that both men had a history of criminal activity.

As part of their ongoing efforts to stop cross-border drug trafficking, especially through UAVs, which are becoming more and more common in transnational smuggling, Azerbaijani border forces are conducting operational and investigative procedures into the case.
