Prisoners in Iran stage hunger strike

On May 5, political prisoners held in 41 Iranian prisons resumed their hunger strike, demanding a halt to executions, human rights organizations report.

According to reports, they took this action to alert human rights organizations and the international community to the rising number of death sentences in the nation.

For the 67th time, a 24-hour hunger strike is being held, beginning on the second day of each week. 

In parallel, relatives of political prisoners housed in Tehran's Evin prison staged a demonstration in front of the facility to voice their opposition to the rise in death sentences and call for an end to the use of this form of punishment.
