Iran executes man responsible for Azerbaijan embassy attack

The man who attacked the Azerbaijani Embassy in Iran was executed in Tehran this morning, according to Iran’s Judiciary Information Portal.

The attack on the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tehran on January 27, 2023, by Hoseinzadeh was investigated by the Tehran Criminal Court. He was charged by the Tehran Prosecutor's Office with a number of offenses, including unlawfully possessing and storing firearms and ammunition, disturbing public order, and purposefully killing an Azerbaijani national inside the embassy with a firearm. The maximum punishment was requested by the prosecution.

Following the indictment's submission, the defendant and his attorneys attended multiple court sessions to review the case. He was finally given a death sentence by the court.

Iran's Supreme Court upheld the decision, and the attacker was put to death this morning at 8:00 a.m. local time.

The Azerbaijani Embassy in Tehran was the target of a terrorist attack on January 27, 2023. One embassy staff member was killed in the attack, and two others were injured.
