Trump says US will not allow Iran to enrich 'any' uranium under nuclear deal

The President of the United States once again emphasized that in any potential nuclear agreement, Iran will not be allowed to enrich uranium — “otherwise, we’ll have to do it another way.”

On the early morning of Saturday, June 8, aboard Air Force One, Donald Trump responded to a journalist who asked, “What will you do if the Ayatollahs say they will definitely continue enrichment?” Trump replied:

“They will not enrich.”

He added:

“If they do enrich, we will be forced to handle it another way. I really don’t want to do it another way, but we will have no choice. There will be no enrichment.”

The U.S. President’s remarks come three days after Khamenei rejected the latest U.S. nuclear proposal and reaffirmed that Iran will continue uranium enrichment.

Mr. Trump and members of his administration — including Marco Rubio and Steve Witkoff, Secretary of State and Special Envoy to the President — have repeatedly stated in recent weeks that any possible deal with Iran must include zero enrichment.

Meanwhile, 16 members of the U.S. House of Representatives also sent a letter to Marco Rubio and Steve Witkoff stressing the dismantling of Iran’s enrichment capacity.

This letter, spearheaded by Republican Congresswoman Claudia Tenney and Democratic Congresswoman Laura Gillen, urges the Trump administration to ensure that any nuclear deal with Iran permanently eliminates the country’s ability to enrich uranium.

The lawmakers also called for the U.S., in coordination with its European allies, to trigger the snapback mechanism if no deal is reached that leads to the complete dismantling of Iran’s nuclear program.
