A Turkish construction company has invested $65 million in the construction of a wind power plant in Afghanistan, aiming for a generation capacity of 43.2 megawatts.

In the project's first phase, Turkey’s “77 Construction Company” will invest $65 million to build a power plant in Herat, Afghanistan. This phase is part of a larger project with a total planned capacity of 200 megawatts.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Taliban’s interim government, several cabinet members, the Turkish Consul General in Herat, the chairman of 77 Construction Company, and other guests.

Emre Ünal, Commercial Counselor at the Turkish Embassy in Kabul, stated that Turkish companies have so far invested approximately $7 billion in Afghanistan. This project marks the first time wind turbine technology is being introduced to Afghanistan by a Turkish company.

Ünal added that Turkey’s positive image in Afghanistan, strong trust in Turkish products and engineering, as well as Afghanistan’s economic potential—including its young workforce and low startup costs—have created favorable conditions for increasing bilateral investments.
