Fereydoun Babaei-Adeghdam, a member of the board of Iran’s Urban Regeneration Company, described the state of this metropolis as highly concerning in terms of targeted residential areas. In an interview with Tasnim, he stated that Tabriz is one of the few cities that contains all four categories of target areas for urban regeneration: high-risk zones, urban settlements (slums), deteriorated central urban fabric, and historical texture.

The former Tabriz City Council member emphasized that Tabriz is among the most vulnerable cities in Iran and stressed the need to identify and officially approve the target neighborhoods in the new detailed urban plan, based on the Supreme Council of Urban Planning and Architecture’s decisions.

Babaei-Adeghdam noted that the condition of Tabriz’s worn-out urban fabric has improved somewhat due to recent renovations, but expressed concern over the state of unauthorized construction in certain areas.

He stated that unregulated construction, particularly in Tabriz’s Districts 10 and 4, has created a chaotic and worrying situation.

He also described the condition of urban settlements as more critical than other urban fabrics, pointing out that many neighborhoods are in high-risk zones with extremely poor topography.

Criticizing the lack of coordination and cooperation among members of the Urban Regeneration Headquarters, he called for greater collaboration among government agencies and stricter oversight of their performance.
