U.S. Congressman: We don’t have enough defense systems against drones

The U.S. Armed Forces lack sufficient defense systems against unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), Congressman Michael McCaul, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, told Fox News.

“We don’t have adequate countermeasures to stop drones, and we need to develop them, because this is how future wars will be fought,” he said.

“There are more and more drones in the sky—thousands, now even millions. The Pentagon should allocate more funding toward developing modern military technologies instead of spending money on old ships that have turned into ‘dinosaurs,’ remnants of World War II. Of course, we still need them, but we must focus on artificial intelligence technologies,” the lawmaker added.

On June 6, U.S. President Donald Trump signed executive orders to increase drone production and improve protection against modern drones. According to documents released by the White House, drones today pose a growing threat “as criminals, terrorists, and foreign adversaries increasingly exploit these technologies.”
