In the ongoing security case of Hamid Abbasi, a political prisoner from Salmas, the First Branch of the Enforcement of Judgments Office of the Salmas Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office has issued an official warning to Ahad Abbasi, his brother and legal guarantor. The notice, delivered via the Judiciary’s electronic system on June 1, 2025, explicitly demands that Hamid Abbasi be handed over to the judicial authorities for sentence enforcement within 30 days.

The notice warns that failure to present the defendant within the specified timeframe will result in the confiscation of the bail amounting to 1.4 billion tomans (approx. USD 27,000) in favor of the government. This severe financial threat comes amid longstanding concerns about interference and pressure from security agencies, particularly the Salmas Intelligence Office, which has repeatedly threatened and intimidated the Abbasi family.

Sources close to the family emphasize that the true aim of the notice is not merely the enforcement of a court ruling, but rather the exertion of additional pressure through the threat of bail forfeiture. Human rights activists have condemned the move as a violation of fair trial principles, warning that the judiciary is being used as a tool for imposing security pressure on the relatives of political detainees, contrary to legal and human rights norms.

This warning was issued following the West Azerbaijan Court of Appeals’ decision—reportedly at the request of the Intelligence Ministry and outside standard legal procedures—to uphold the original ruling and pursue additional charges based on intelligence reports. These developments highlight the continued role of security agencies in steering judicial processes and underscore the lack of judicial independence in politically sensitive cases.
