According to Günaz TV, citing APA, these remarks were made by Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Department for Foreign Policy Affairs of the Presidential Administration, during the panel “The Middle Corridor: A New Geopolitical and Economic Lifeline?” at the GLOBSEC Forum 2025 in Prague.

Hajiyev emphasized that Azerbaijan has ensured security in the region and noted that Azerbaijan has certain expectations from Armenia.

“When Azerbaijan’s territories were under occupation, we considered connectivity only within the context of conflict resolution. Now that the conflict is resolved, we believe that ensuring peace and stability is one of the key components for the full and effective operation of the East–West transport corridor.

We have already secured this in the region. Armenia can indeed be part of the broader regional discussions and corridor initiatives — this is possible. Naturally, we also have expectations from Armenia.

For 30 years, Armenia kept Nakhchivan under blockade. Now, we expect them to take the first crucial step — regarding the Zangezur Corridor.

The word ‘corridor’ causes discomfort for some of my Armenian counterparts. Let them call it whatever they wish. What matters to us is establishing a connection to Nakhchivan, as we have been deprived of this opportunity for three decades.

Once that connection is established, I believe new opportunities will emerge for Armenia as well. We would like to see Armenia as part of regional transportation.”
