Today, Azerbaijan commemorates National Salvation Day.
Thirty-two years ago, on June 15, 1993, during a session of the National Assembly, national leader Heydar Aliyev outlined the country’s future state-building strategy. This pivotal address marked a turning point in Azerbaijan’s modern history and led to the day being recognized as National Salvation Day, symbolizing the nation’s rescue from the brink of political collapse.
While gaining independence was a critical first step, preserving and strengthening sovereignty was equally vital. This was achieved through Heydar Aliyev’s leadership and determination. He laid the foundation for the concept of national statehood in Azerbaijan. Despite numerous challenges, political and social stability was restored in a short time.
