Asena's mother, F. Babapour, spoke to  "Balamin Adi" Campaign about the issue.

"Our daughter was born on May 17, 2025, and we chose the Turkish name Asena for her. When we applied for a document for our daughter, the employees of the Ahar Civil Registration Department told us that they could not issue her a birth certificate because this name was not on the "List of Allowed Names".Although we informed them that a birth certificate had been issued for this name before, they told us that this issue is being decided in Tehran. We were forced to file a complaint with the Ahar Civil Registration Department in court. However, before the case went to court, after our appeal to  "Balamin Adi" Campaign and the objection of the Urmu MP, Asena was issued a birth certificate," said Ms. Babapour.

It should be noted that after a wave of cultural protests carried out with the broad participation of the people of South Azerbaijan, including writers, civil activists, media, and bloggers, the Civil Registration Office was forced to declare dozens of "banned" Turkish names as "permitted."

However, hundreds of other names such as "Güntay, Yağış, Sevgi, Alp Arslan" still remain among the banned names.
