Washington-led strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities has set back Tehran’s nuclear program by up to two years.

The U.S. Department of Defense says intelligence assessments indicate that last month’s Washington-led strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities has set back Tehran’s nuclear program by up to two years.

This new assessment, announced by Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell, appears to differ from a leaked classified Pentagon report which had suggested, contrary to President Donald Trump’s claims, that Iran’s nuclear program was not destroyed by the U.S. attacks and had only been delayed by a few months.

Without providing new evidence, Parnell told reporters on Wednesday: “According to our intelligence assessments at the Department of Defense, we’ve pushed their program back by at least one to two years.” He added that the official estimate “likely leans closer to two years.”

The leaked report was prepared by the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), a Pentagon-affiliated agency specializing in military intelligence to support operations.

Eleven days ago, the U.S. Air Force carried out a complex operation targeting three Iranian nuclear sites: Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.
