Lake Urmia will dry up completely by the end of summer

In the northern part of Lake Urmia, 4-5 centimeters of water remains in an area of 100 square kilometers, which means the lake is completely dry.

This was stated by the head of the Environmental Protection Department of the West Azerbaijan province, Hojjat Jabbari.

"This is the first time in the history of Lake Urmia that the water level has decreased so much, and the northern part of the lake is expected to dry up completely in the next 5-6 days. Currently, the small amount of water that remains in the north." he said.

Hojjat Jabbari drew attention to the fact that the water level in the southern part of the lake is also significantly lower:

"In the southern part, there is water at a depth of 15-20 centimeters in an area of 600-700 square kilometers, and if this trend continues, these waters will dry up by the end of summer, and Lake Urmia will completely disappear."
