The Zangezur corridor represents a land blockade of Iran, so we have implemented an active policy to prevent the opening of this corridor by deploying troops on the border.
This was stated by Ali Akbar Velayati, an advisor to Iranian leader Ali Khamenei and former Foreign Minister.
"Iran's enemies, especially international Zionism and America, are concerned about Iran's strategic cultural depth and have always tried to undermine our national security by weakening the foundations of this identity," he added.
Velayati claimed that the Zangezur corridor project is part of America's and Israel's plan to strike Iran:
"America and Israel are implementing plans like the 'Zangezur corridor' as a cover for larger geopolitical projects. The main goal is to weaken the axis of resistance, cut off Iran's connection with the Caucasus, and encircle Iran and Russia on land in the south of the region," Khamenei's advisor said.
It should be noted that Vilayati has previously made claims that the Zangezur corridor is "a plan of the West and NATO against Iran."
