Suicide rate increases in Iran - New center being established

Due to the increasing number of suicides in Iran, a "Suicide Prevention Center" is being established.

This was reported by Zahra Behrouz-Azer, deputy minister for women and family affairs of Masoud Pezeshkian.

"Each of us is responsible for reducing suicide and we hope that suicide will reach zero," she said.

According to Behrouz-Azer, although women attempt suicide twice as often as men, the number of suicides that result in death is higher among men.

Behrouz-Azer said that they do not know the exact reasons for suicides among citizens.

Experts consider the limited personal, social and political freedoms of citizens, unemployment, poverty and hopelessness for the future is the main reasons for the increase in suicides.

It should be noted that, according to official statistics, 40 thousand of the hundreds of thousands of Iranians who attempted suicide over the past 7 years have lost their lives as a result of suicide.
