Two employees of the Ministry of Natural Resources were given heavy prison sentences in the city of Urmu in the West Azerbaijan province.
This was reported by the chief judge of the province, Nasser Atabati.
According to him, each of the two officials accused of "corruption" and "embezzlement of public funds" was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
In addition, they were fined twice the amount of money they embezzled and were permanently banned from public work.
It should be noted that according to a report published by Transparency International, Iran is among the most corrupt countries.
According to the organization's 2024 report, Iran ranks 151st out of 180 countries in terms of corruption with a score of 23 and is considered one of the most corrupt countries in the world.
