It should be noted that this project, which has been on the agenda since 2012, has now entered a new research phase with the determination of the pipeline route and branch map, despite widespread environmental and expert resistance.

This has also been met with protests from Azerbaijani environmental activists, who have condemned the fact that several times the budget that should have been allocated for the restoration of Lake Urmia is being spent on this project.
