Iran executed one person in every three hours last month

Iran Human Rights Organization announced that at least 217 people were executed in Iran last month.

Iran Human Rights Organization said this was the highest monthly figure in 25 years. This means one execution in every three hours.

Of the 217 executions recorded, only 24 (11 percent) were announced by official media, the organization said.

The report said 99 prisoners (45 percent of the executions) were executed on drug-related charges, while 104 (48 percent) were convicted of premeditated murder. Among those executed were eight Baloch, 11 Afghans and one Arab citizen.

The organization added that at least 1,271 people were executed in the first 10 months of this year, nearly double the 685 executions in the same period last year.
