Concerns are growing in Europe and the international community that Tehran is ignoring global warnings and that a new round of conflict is likely next year.
Nearly six months after the 12-Day War, the Israeli newspaper Ynet, citing an unnamed senior European diplomat, predicted that Israel would attack Iran again within the next 12 months.
This prediction is consistent with previous estimates by the United States and Israel that the attacks during the 12-Day War had set back Iran's nuclear program by about a year and a half. If Iran and the United States fail to reach a nuclear deal, if Iran fails to provide accurate information about its stockpile of 60 percent enriched uranium, and if the current situation continues, another Israeli attack is not out of the question to eliminate the potential threat. It is also worth noting that the United States has repeatedly stated that it will attack Tehran again if it tries to revive its nuclear program.
However, according to Ynet, the United States is unlikely to authorize an attack in the coming weeks, given the ongoing reconstruction efforts in Gaza and regional tensions in Lebanon and the West Bank.
“The US will not allow a major offensive in the coming weeks because it does not want to jeopardize the reconstruction efforts in Gaza,” said an unnamed European diplomat.
“I personally believe that Israel will attack Iran within the next 12 months.” It is clear that the regime, especially Ali Khamenei, has not learned the right lessons from the recent conflict; on the contrary, they have redoubled their efforts,” the diplomat added.
The diplomat, expressing pessimism about the situation in Iran, said: “The real problem in Iran is the internal crises, especially the severe water shortage; this is something they should pay more attention to.”
