Human rights organizations reported on this.

Karimpour called the death sentence after a 15-minute trial and without allowing his defense an unfair decision.

He wrote that he was tortured during his arrest and in the pre-trial detention center, and that he was pressured and threatened by taking his wife to the security department to accept false accusations.

The Azerbaijani activist drew attention to the groundlessness of the accusation of "spying for Israel" brought against him, stating that there was no evidence for it.

It should be noted that Yaqub Karimpour, born in 1984, from the city of Goshachay in the West Azerbaijan province, was arrested on June 16, 2025 and accused of "collaborating with Israel" during the 12-day Iran-Israel war.

Karimpour, who graduated from the Faculty of Law at Maragha University, is severely physically disabled and suffers from chronic diseases.
