Iran is close to finalizing a deal to purchase Chinese-made CM-302 supersonic anti-ship cruise missiles, according to sources cited by Reuters.
While the agreement is said to be near completion, no delivery date has been confirmed.
The CM-302 has a range of around 290 kilometers and is designed to fly low and at high speed to evade ship defense systems. Experts say the missiles would significantly boost Iran’s strike capabilities and pose a serious threat to U.S. naval forces operating in the region.
Negotiations reportedly began at least two years ago and accelerated after last year’s conflict between Iran and Israel. The potential deal comes as the United States increases its naval presence near Iran amid heightened regional tensions.
