Britain insists Hormuz transit should stay free of charge

UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said on Thursday that ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz should not face any fees, emphasizing that freedom of navigation means vessels must be allowed to pass without being charged.

She stressed that core maritime freedoms cannot be taken away or commercialized by any single party.

Cooper also called on governments to back proposals from the International Maritime Organization to assist vessels stranded in the Strait of Hormuz.

She added that Lebanon should be included in any ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran.
