Hormuz Strait will be permanently closed to the US and Israel - Azizi

Any oil tanker belonging to or affiliated with the United States and Israel will be permanently banned from passing through the Strait of Hormuz, according to Ibrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian parliament’s National Security Committee.

“All vessels whose origin or destination is Israel are prohibited from transit,” he added.

Azizi said the ban would also apply to countries that take action against Iran’s proxy forces.

The committee chair also noted that the draft plan includes charging ships a transit fee, which would be paid in Iran’s national currency.

At the same time, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh told Al Jazeera that the Strait of Hormuz remains open and that American ships may pass through as long as they do not engage in “hostile actions.”

“The Strait of Hormuz is open, but due to technical constraints, vessels must coordinate with Iranian forces,” he said.
